The Ex, The Bug.... and a song

.

So... I talked with the Ex The other day....just small chat, catching up with folks we knew in the old days.  She mentioned that Janet is touring Russia in may.  The video is from Janet Planet's new album. Check her site. Way way way back in the day Janet and Tom always played as a duo at the Club where she worked.  I always remember when I had booked their band to play at our wedding ... only to have the band break up a week before the event..."Don't worry," Tom told me... "we will work something out."  And it did.  A jazz jam session for wedding music.  Coulda been a Polka, see, it did work out.

Mostly, though, The Ex and I talked about The Bug and her up coming graduation.  Tonight is her Honor's Exhibit at the U.... followed by her Senior Showing next month.  Busy stuff.  I don't expect her to stick around here after graduation.  She also will not really talk about her plans.  One day she will just tell us where she is going.... and be gone.

She's got everything she needs
She's an artist, she don't look back
She's got everything she needs
She's an artist, she don't look back
She can take the dark out of nighttime
And paint the daytime black.

she belongs to me ~ Bob Dylan

no sense feeling bad about it.  I know I can always forever close my eyes and hear her say, "Hey Dad."

Hugs, Jim. My oldest is graduating from high school next month, so I kind of know where you're at. Her college plans are kind of up in the air right now, and I'm not sure if she'll be venturing away or going to school here yet....either one will be a little weird for me. So grown up, but always my baby.
:)
Enjoy the Showing, and her graduation.....I know you're proud.

A bittersweet time. You are a good dad. Believe me, having had a fairly lousy one, I kinda know. My dad was good about being a provider, and lousy in seeing his child as a human being with her own ideas and desires. She may be heading off to her dream, but Jimmy, she will always come back. I went back as little as possible. She'll get back as often as possible. That is a world of difference.

Starting to know the feelings you are relating. My own son now has a part-time job and is seriously looking into what colleges he will be going.

My daughter is just nine years-old but is growing up fast.

Bittersweet indeed. Love that song, it fits perfectly. :)

There's just no way to keep them little and under our protection. Unfortunately. She'll be fine and she does have a fine dad to come home to.
